As a personal trainer, I hear a ton of different excuses every day. People will come up to me and share their goals, quickly followed with a “but…” to explain why they haven’t reached their goal yet. Most of the time, time is the biggest excuse. I get it, sometimes it’s not possible to get a workout in. Most of the time though, we’re just too lazy to drive to the gym or prep our workout area at home. With that in mind, I designed a full body workout that requires only 30 minutes of your time (tops), a few dumbbells, and your motivation to change.

In this week’s blog post, I want to address a question/complaint I often get: will squats make my legs look big? Usually, it’s followed by the statement: I don’t want to get too bulky or lifting heavy will make me look too big. Ah, if only it was that easy to put on muscle mass. This post isn’t about weightlifting (if you want all the details of lifting weights, you can read Lift Faster: The Science of Weightlifting), it’s about squats. Why should you squat? Will squatting really make your legs look too big?

Most clients that come into my office ask me one thing: how can I lose this belly fat? For some reason, society taught us that belly fat is wrong/unhealthy and our primary focus should be getting rid of our pooch. As a woman, I get it. Our stomach is broadcasted for the world to see when we go to the beach or when we wear something a little tighter around the middle area. We want that flat stomach when we wear a tight dress. Believe me, I get it. So, how do we get rid of belly fat? Do you have to do hundreds of ab exercises, daily?

You all know about my hate/love relationship with crossfit. If you don’t, follow me on Instagram to hear me complain/praise the wonderful sport, every Saturday. Unfortunately, I can’t fit more crossfit WODs into my schedule, for now, so I’m limited to doing one crossfit workout per week. I used to do it on Saturday afternoons, where I crafted my own little torture. Eventually, I got tired of being tired, alone, so I joined the morning classes on Saturday. It definitely helps me push myself harder, since there are a lot of people around and my pride doesn’t let me stop.
