How Social Media Helped Me

I’ve heard so often that I spend too much time on Social Media. Although it may be true, I spend time online to interact with people that have become great friends and confidents. People who help me stay positive in hard situations. People who make my day brighter by sharing their own stories. People who became part of my close circle, even if we live thousands of miles apart. Social media receives a bad reputation, thanks to people like Danielle Bregoli or the Kardashians; people think that social media is only there to brag about your physique or our wonderful life. For me, it’s much much more than that.

Hi, my name is Sarah, and I am addicted to carbohydrates. I don’t care what form or shape they come in, I love them all equally. Being a carb-lover, imagine my reaction when I had to go on a low carb diet last October. I thought it would be impossible for me to sustain a low carb diet, mostly because I love carbs so much. I didn’t even think about the benefits it will bring to my body, I just thought – no. Regardless of my feelings towards the approach, I trust my coach’s knowledge in his craft and my body, therefore I went forward and did it. I tried the low carb diet. Here’s what happened.

Binge eating is the cause of many athletes’ weight gain after competing or after being in a calorie deficit. Normal individuals can also be victims to binge eating, restricting their calorie intake during the week to finally cave and binge on the weekend. This cycle can mess with one’s metabolism and hormones, turning one’s body into a fat gaining machine. This article will discuss how I overcame my binge eating and what recovery entails.

bye 2016, new year resolutions, new year reflections
I can’t believe we’re already a few days away from 2017. I feel like just yesterday, we were all excited to enter 2016. I think these past twelve months have been a roller coaster for most people (or at least, that’s what the memes say). Personally, 2016 was the year that pushed me out of my comfort zone. I have so many things to be thankful for, good and bad, I don’t even know where to begin. The following reflections are my own. Thank you for allowing me to lay out my raw thoughts on here. They may not make sense at times. But here they are.

Around this time last year, I wrote an article on the 20 Books All Young Entrepreneurs Should Read. Many people wrote to me, thanking me for the list of books. Many others, who have read some of those books, thanked me for sharing them and making them a must-read for young entrepreneurs. Now, stepping into a new year, it’s time to kick that list up a notch with some new reads. After all, success is always evolving.

You all know about my hate/love relationship with crossfit. If you don’t, follow me on Instagram to hear me complain/praise the wonderful sport, every Saturday. Unfortunately, I can’t fit more crossfit WODs into my schedule, for now, so I’m limited to doing one crossfit workout per week. I used to do it on Saturday afternoons, where I crafted my own little torture. Eventually, I got tired of being tired, alone, so I joined the morning classes on Saturday. It definitely helps me push myself harder, since there are a lot of people around and my pride doesn’t let me stop.

“You’re a College dropout. What are you going to do with your life?” Dropping out of College isn’t the end of the World. There are many things you can do after you finish College. Even if you don’t walk away with a diploma in hand.

We all have different goals in life. Some of us want to achieve greatness in the classroom. Challenging ourselves with new ways to study or write an essay.

Others, can’t stand the classroom. We dread getting up early in the morning to sit in a room filled with people we barely know. We don’t like the pressure the education system puts on us, judging our intelligence with grades rather than the understanding of the material. Most of the time, we dropout of University after a few months.

It’s 11:22PM on a Friday night. I’m sitting in bed, listening to love songs, thinking about everything that happened this week. Thinking about what I learned, what I heard, what I said, and what I did. Wondering if I had a productive week, or if I have to work a little harder this weekend, to catch up on my to-do list. Just like every night I stay up past 11:00PM, my mind starts to wander. One thing in particular struck this week, as people around me encouraged settling. Settling in love. Settling at work. Settling in life.

Here I am, soaking in my bubbling bath. Eyes closed, letting the smell of Bath, Body Works’ vanilla scented candle and Beyonce’s song, “Halo”, take me on a journey. Relaxing my muscles in what seemed like a bucket of Epsom Salt, and hydrating my skin with Lush’s exciting bath bombs. Here I am, in bath heaven. Alone with my thoughts and Beyonce’s divine voice, my brain has a realization: what if I have commitment issues?
